Easier Medical Injection Molding Process Revalidation

Date: September 8, 2010, 12PM EST

For many medical molders, the cost in both time and money, to revalidate their injection molding processes, prevents them from moving molds between presses. The resulting high costs and inefficiencies in press utilization are simply unacceptable in today’s business climate. In this presentation, we will present strategies for dramatically reducing revalidation costs using Universal Setup Sheets and in-cavity data. These techniques are being used successfully by highly respected device manufacturers and custom molders.

It Aint Necessarily So: Some Extrusion Beliefs that are too Easily Taken for Granted

Date: August 18, 2010, 11AM EST

In extrusion, as in life, we have some ideas that seldom get challenged and have become accepted without question. They are dangerous, especially since they often have some basis in truth and can be defended by those whose technological security is threatened by the prospect of fuller understanding. The key to understanding extrusion, as in most scientific endeavors, is quantification. One must ask: How much? How many? What are the real physical dimensions? What is the real duration (time)?

One of the privileges of experience, as well as one of the obligations, is to deal with such established beliefs and de-sanctify them with numbers and logic. In this, the fifth in our Extrusion Expert webinar series, Allan Griff again shares his experience and tells you how to avoid getting caught up in the wave of popular but unsupported ideas .. such as: the right screw will solve all your problems... power is a major cost of extrusion ... there is a right "profile" for each material ... scrap is weaker than virgin ... worn screws cause surging ... running faster is always better.
