Shredder upgrade saves energy, improves throughput

More throughput while using less energy is a pretty good tradeoff, and that exchange is said to be realized as the result of recent upgrades to the established Vega-brand shredders from manufacturer Lindner reSource GmbH. Even at a modest speed of up to 250 revolutions/minute, the company's newly developed Super-Vega model can reduce plastics scrap to pellets sized 10-15 mm.

Purgings-be-gone with new system

Instead of shipping purged lumps and clumps to landfills, processors can use the Purging Recovery System from Maguire. It’s a two-stage system that first slices or planes hard lumps of plastic into small pieces, then reduces the pieces to uniform, high-quality regrind. Maguire sells the entire system, including the second-stage compact granulator, for $28,000.

Startup shredder solution

Designed for processing injection mold startup purge with a direct-drive, shredder-style rotor, the new CLS 600+ Light Duty Single Shaft Shredder Series from Cumberland Engineering (South Attleboro, MA) reduces startup purge and flash to less than 4-inch particles that can then be granulated by a beside-the-press granulator. Standard hardened rotors with replaceable cutters and cutter seats are designed for processing the thicker sections of startup purge and blowmolding flash.

Get your shred on

SXS1500, SXS2000, and SXS3000 single-shaft shredders with three different rotor types for flexible processing are now available from Sterling (New Berlin, WI). Each rotor is equipped with square cutters (60 mm) for efficient cutting, which are reversible for quick changes. Built rugged for demanding and specialized applications, the SXS Series provides reduced heat buildup and degradation and offers an abrasion-resistant rotor for longer life.

Humps trap tramps

A novel dog-leg design in the latest magnetic metal separator from Eriez Magnetics (Erie, PA), dubbed the Magnetic Hump, includes two powerful plate magnets strategically placed to trap the tramp metal contaminants in your virgin or regrind materials that pass through its latest unit.
